The notion that peak color season in Great Smoky Mountains National Park happens in mid-October is a misconception. The marvelous colors of autumn actually light up the Smokies for seven weeks or more as the peak elevations move down the mountainsides from the highest elevations to the foothills.

October 5th-22th, 2017 over 180 of the finest craftspeople from all over the United States demonstrate their skill, answer questions and offer their unique art for sale.   There’s even free live country and bluegrass music at the event: Performing at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day. The fair is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except for Sunday, which is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for adults is $7; children 12 and under are admitted free. The Gatlinburg Convention Center is located at Traffic Light #8 in downtown Gatlinburg.

In all, Mickey Gilley has achieved a remarkable 39 Top-Ten country hits, with 17 of those songs reaching the No. 1 spot on the country charts. In 1976, he swept the ACM Awards, hauling home trophies for Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Song of the Year, Single of the Year and Album of the Year. The landmark Texas nightclub he helped create in 1971 is another example of Mickey’s success. Gilley’s Club was the sensation of the era: the “world’s largest honky-tonk.” It was a launching pad for some of country music’s biggest stars and the dominating force behind the “Urban Cowboy” craze that swept the country in the early ’80s, following the release of the John Travolta movie filmed in the Pasadena, Texas, nightclub. Johnny Lee was asked to perform in the film, Urban Cowboy, which starred John Travolta and Deborah Winger, and for which he also recorded several songs used in the soundtrack. “Lookin’ For Love”, from that same soundtrack, became Lee’s first Gold Record. Fishing
The Little Pigeon River is one of Tennessee’s premier trout fishing streams, with opportunities to catch stocked rainbow trout as well as wild brook trout. Smallmouth bass inhabit the water as well. The river splits into three forks in the Sevierville, and the West Fork of the Pigeon River flows through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg before entering Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fishing is allowed along most of the river, including the Pigeon Forge area.
